Produzzjonijiet tal-opri f’Għawdex se jgawdu minn investiment ta’ €330,000 mill-Ministeru għall-Wirt Nazzjonali, l-Arti u l-Gvern Lokali, b’kontribut addizzjonali ta’ €60,000 mill-Ministeru għal Għawdex. Kemm it-Teatru Astra kif ukoll it-Teatru Aurora gawdew mill-Programm Investiment għall-Organizzazzjonijiet Kulturali – Għawdex, amministrat mill-Kunsill Malti għall-Arti, liema programm ta’ finanzjament ikopri l-perjodu mill-2022 sal-2024. Dan tħabbar mill-Ministru għall-Wirt Nazzjonali, l-Arti u l-Gvern Lokali Owen Bonnici u mill-Ministru għal Għawdex Clint Camilleri.

Il-Ministru Bonnici faħħar din il-kisba u qal, “Aħna nimmiraw u niżguraw li kull forma ta’ arti hija rikonoxxuta, inkluż is-settur operistiku li fih pajjiżna qed jiddistingwi ruħu. L-opri għandhom pjattaforma soda f’Għawdex u grazzi għal dan il-programm nistgħu nkomplu ninvestu fl-eċċellenza artistika f’din il-forma ta’ teatru, li hi tant maħbuba u apprezzata.” Il-Ministru Bonnici rrefera wkoll għall-Politika Kulturali Nazzjonali, li tpoġġi fuq quddiem l-importanza ta’ Għawdex, li hu kulturalment distint, hekk kif imsemmi f’waħda mill-prijoritajiet tagħha. “Għalhekk huwa ta’ min ifaħħar din l-inizjattiva, hekk kif dan hu perfettament konformi mal-isforzi tagħna bħala gvern”, qal il-Ministru Bonnici. Kull teatru se jibbenefika minn €55,000 mill-Ministeru għall-Wirt Nazzjonali, l-Arti u l-Gvern Lokali u €10,000 mill-Ministeru għal Għawdex għal tliet snin konsekuttivi.

Il-Ministru għal Għawdex Clint Camilleri qal li minkejja li għandu ftit iktar minn 30,000 ruħ, Għawdex għandu żewġ teatri tal-opri li kull wieħed minn tal-inqas itellgħu opra fis-sena, ħafna drabi b’solisti internazzjonali. Fil-fatt, l-istaġun tal-opri llum il-ġurnata huwa appuntament regolari għas-segwaċi tal-opra. Il-Ministru Camilleri semma li x-xahar tal-opra f’Għawdex, Ottubru, huwa opportunità kbira għall-Għawdxin stess, li għandhom talenti artistiċi kbar, biex jgħaqqdu u jiffurmaw parti minn grupp ta’ kalibru għoli li jiġi Għawdex apposta għal avvenimenti bħal dawn tant imfittxija. Qal li, “Ottubru hu xahar ieħor interessanti għall-gżira Għawdxija. B’kollaborazzjoni maż-żewġ soċjetajiet Leone u La Stella, irnexxielna nħejju programm intensiv iżda ambizzjuż, b’xahar sħiħ ta’ attivitajiet, biex Għawdex ikompli jistabbilixxi ruħu bħala destinazzjoni rinomata għall-opra. Bħala ministeru kommessi li nkomplu nagħtu appoġġ lill-programm kulturali estensiv li għandna f’Għawdex bil-għan li nkomplu nattiraw lejn il-gżira turisti ta’ kwalità.”

Il-programm ikopri attivitajiet li se jsiru fl-2022, fl-2023 u fl-2024, u hemm total ta’ seba’ organizzazzjonijiet Għawdxin li bbenefikaw. Din kienet l-ewwel sejħa tal-ICO-Għawdex, hekk kif qabel din is-sejħa kienet magħrufa bħala l-Programm ta’ Għajnuna Kulturali għal Għawdex. Bis-saħħa taż-żewġ inizjattivi, l-investiment totali f’organizzazzjonijet Għawdxin li huma attivi fis-setturi kulturali u kreattivi se jlaħħaq iż-€2,385,000 fuq medda ta’ tmien snin (2016-2024). PRESS RELEASE BY THE MINISTRY FOR THE NATIONAL HERITAGE, THE ARTS AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND THE MINISTRY FOR GOZO

An investment of €390,000 in opera productions in Gozo

Gozitan operatic productions have been granted funding of €330,000 by the Ministry for National Heritage, Arts and Local Government, with an additional €60,000 contributed by the Ministry for Gozo. Teatru Astra and Teatru Aurora have both benefitted from the Investment in Cultural Organisations – Gozo Programme, managed by Arts Council Malta, whereby a total investment of €390,000 from 2022 to 2024 towards their opera programmes has been announced by Minister for National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government Owen Bonnici and Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri.

Minister Bonnici commended this outcome. “We strive to ensure that all art forms are recognised and upheld, including opera. Opera has a very strong platform in Gozo, and thanks to the ICO-Gozo we can continue investing in artistic excellence in this form of theatre, which is so well loved and appreciated on the island”, said Minister Bonnici. Minister Bonnici also made reference to the National Cultural Policy, which puts at the forefront a culturally distinct Gozo as one of its priorities.  “Hence, such a laudable initiative like this one, falls perfectly in line with our efforts”, he said. Each theatre will benefit from €55,000 from the Ministry for National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government and €10,000 from the Minsitry for Gozo, for three consecutive years.

Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri said the island of Gozo has two opera theatres which manage to hold one fully staged opera at least once a year, and this often with the participation of international soloists. In fact, this opera season has now become a regular appointment for opera enthusiasts. Camilleri mentioned that opera month, October, is a great opportunity for Gozitans, who possess great artistic talents, to blend and form part of high calibre casts, that visit Gozo for such sought-after events. He stated, “This is an interesting month for Gozo. Through the collaboration with Leone and La Stella societies we have managed to draw up an intensive but ambitious programme of events to bolster Gogo’s attempt to establish itself as a renowned opera destination. As a Ministry we are committed to support Gozo’s vast cultural programme aiming to attract quality tourism all year round.”

The programme covers activities happening in 2022, 2023 and 2024 and a total of seven Gozitan organisations have benefitted from this call. This is the first run of the ICO-Gozo, previously known as the Gozo Cultural Support Programme. Thanks to both initiatives, a total sum of €2,385,000 will have been invested from 2016 to 2024 in Gozitan organisations active in the cultural and creative sectors. More information and results for this call on this programme can be found on www.artscouncil.mt, under the funding and opportunities section.
