Office of the Permanent Secretary

​The principal responsibility of the Ministry for Gozo is to bring about the sustainable economic and social development of the Island of Gozo and its residents and this responsibility is collectively pursued by the Hon. Minister for Gozo and the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry for Gozo. The Office of the Permanent Secretary provides support and advise to the Minister for Gozo on policy issues and recommends appropriate courses of actions that will enable the Minister and the Ministry for Gozo deliver Government and Ministry objectives. Subsequently, the Office of the Permanent Secretary puts into effect those policies.

The Permanent Secretary is also the principal representative of the Public Service in the Ministry for Gozo.  He ensures the effective and efficient management of the respective line departments and entities that form part of the Ministry’s portfolio. The Permanent Secretary ensures that these departments and entities observe Public Service wide standards and regulations and that they execute their functions and reflect the Minister’s direction and Government objectives. He ensures that the key tasks of Public Service Management – planning, organizing, execution, control and evaluation, are carried effectively and efficiently.  He ensures that the allocated public finances are effectively utilized and that the Ministry for Gozo is adequately represented and actively participates in European Union and international fora.  This Office endeavors to identify and seek to maximize opportunities that are available under the European Union’s cohesion policy.
