Cold Stores


  • Storage at appropriate temperatures of farmers` and fishermen`s produce for future sale (available to Fishermen & Farmers only),
  • Sale of ice flakes to fisherman,
  • Fruits & Vegetables Crates Depot for Farmers.​

Notifications of Service: Service will be notified to Gozitan farmers registered with IACS through an SMS. Publicity of the new service will also be done through other media available at the Ministry`s and Rural Directorate`s disposal. A post will be uploaded on the official Facebook Page of the Rural Gozo Directorate and also MGOZ website.

Eligibility Criteria: All farmers in possession of Pitkali Crates will be eligible to deposit their crates at this facility.

Deposit Centre: Cold Stores, Abattoir Street, Xewkija.

Time of Service: The Pitkali Crates Deposit will be open from Monday to Friday between 7.30am and 12.30am.

Deposit and Collection of Boxes: The scheme is to be administered by the administrative personnel at the Cold Stores Facilities. Upon registration farmers will be given a reference number. A ledger for every registered farmer is to be kept at the Cold Stores so as a balance for every farmer is kept at our offices. Farmers are to sign on this ledger book every time they deposit or take Pitkali crates from this deposit. A receipt is also to be given every time farmers deposit or take their crates. Farmers will not be allowed to take more Pitkali crates than their actual balance.


Broken Crates: Broken Crates will not be accepted.
